(Hamilton, NY – Oct. 2014) Democratic Assemblyman Bill Magee (pictured top) and challenger Brookfield Town Supervisor John Salka (R,C) will answer questions from voters at a Candidates Forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Colgate Inn.
Because the Forum starts promptly at 7 p.m., audience members are asked to arrive earlier, sign in at the ante-room and take their seats in the Green Room.
The event is open to the public and sponsored by the Hamilton Rotary Club.
The two candidates will briefly introduce themselves and explain why for the next two years they want to represent the voters of the 121st Assembly District that comprises all of Madison and parts of Otsego and Oneida counties. Registered voters are invited to ask a question addressed to both candidates and may follow up with one supplementary question to each candidate.
After approximately 45 minutes of questions and answers, the candidates will give their closing statements.
Salka, who also sits on the Madison County Board of Supervisors, was nominated without opposition by the county Republican committees in the 121st Assembly District, the Conservative Party of Madison County and the Madison County Independence Party.
Magee, a former member of the Madison County Board of Supervisors from Nelson, has represented Madison County in Albany since 1990. This year he was challenged for the Democratic nomination by Richard Hennessy, a Sherrill city commissioner and former minority leader of the Oneida County Legislature.
Magee won the Democratic primary Sept. 9.
The Forum is moderated by former Hamilton Mayor Larry Baker who will end the proceedings by 8:15 p.m. Voters will be able to meet and speak with the candidates in the ante-room and pick up campaign literature.
Refreshments will be offered to those who stay.
