November Movies Conclude

(Cazenovia) The Cazenovia Public Library’s November movie schedule concludes with Ivory Tower at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, and Jersey Boys at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21.

Described as provocative and engaging, the documentary film Ivory Tower questions the cost – and value – of higher education in the United States. Written and directed by Andrew Rossi, Ivory Tower was the 2014 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection. It is rated PG-13 and runs for 90 minutes.

Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli – the small kid with the big falsetto – and three other young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group “The Four Seasons,” producing a sound that has managed to endure for more than four decades in the hearts of the public (Imdb.com).

Jersey Boys is rated R and runs for two hours, 14 minutes.

As always, films are shown in the Library Community Room with free admission and popcorn.

Alzheimer’s Series begins at the Cazenovia Public Library

Three presentations by the Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter, will be offered at the Cazenovia Public Library beginning Monday, Nov. 17.

The presentation Nov. 17, “Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease: The Basics,” will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room. If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, it’s time to learn the facts.

This presentation will provide information on the difference between normal aging and dementia, as well as exploring how the brain works. Dementia and its stages will be defined and the importance of clinical trials explained. An overview of the programs and services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association will also be given.

Planes: Fire & Rescue to be Shown

Movie-goers need to buckle up and get ready for nonstop action in Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue. Watch it on the big screen in the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14; and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15.

Planes: Fire & Rescue is the thrill of a lifetime, featuring a dynamic crew of elite aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfires.

When world-famous air racer Dusty learns that he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. He joins forces with a team of veteran firefighters, and together they battle a massive fire (Amazon.com).

Planes: Fire & Rescue is rated PG and runs for 84 minutes.  As always, admission and popcorn are free.

The McCarthy Family in concert

You don’t want to miss an evening of lively entertainment when The McCarthy Family performs in the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

Performing together since 2007, the members of the McCarthy family are all vocalists, as well as instrumentalists and percussionists.  Originally from Limerick, Ireland, Deirdre McCarthy is a tin whistler, concertinist and percussionist. Her husband Jim is a guitarist as is their son Shane who is also a percussionist and mandolinist.

Their Nov. 14 performance will include folk and pop favorites as well as lively, lifting music from Deirdre’s native Ireland.

The McCarthy family has been featured performers at the New York State Fair and numerous county fairs, libraries, festivals, town concerts, tree lighting celebrations, church functions, family reunions, recreation programs and more.

Readers will also remember them from last April when they performed at the Cazenovia Public Library with Tom Parker and Friends. Sponsored by the Friends, the performance by the “McCarthy Family” is free and open to the public.
