Bill Mayers

A Confederate Yankee

(Dec. 2014) Right now in America: Corporate profits are at record highs. The country is adding 200,000 new jobs per month. Unemployment is below 6%. The GNP is the best among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries. The dollar is at its strongest level in years. The stock market is at record highs. Gasoline prices are plunging. There’s no inflation. Interest rates are at their lowest in 30 years. Oil imports are declining while U.S. oil production is increasing. The deficit is rapidly declining. The wealthy are still making huge amounts of money.

America is once again leading the world and respected internationally, in contrast to the Bush years. Barak Obama brought our troops home from Iraq and killed Osama bin Laden. So what do we do? We vote for the party that got us into the mess Obama just dug us out of! We swallowed the neo-Con mountain of lies like a giant sundae with a barrel of cherries on top.

That mountain of lies was bought and paid for by dark money from billionaires with no accountability for their actions: actions that brought the nation to its economic knees. An act of high treason by the “supreme” court gave corporations the same rights as citizens, again with no accountability. In short, the idea of free and fair elections in America has been defecated upon by an unholy alliance of the powers of evil, and the America you and I grew up in is dying on the vine because voters were so unbelievably and undeniably stupid this election.

And the victorious Republicans? Not a single idea put forth for the betterment of America, but the same tired old prattle about Obamacare, non-existent threats from Ebola and ISIS, and a bottomless pit of nonsense regarding immigration, gay marriage and imaginary plans to confiscate everybody’s guns. A manufactured crisis about voter fraud, which has, in fact, not affected a single national election in the past hundred years, despite the foolish prattle of certain Wrighteous Wranters in print, as well as on the Internet.

Equal pay for equal work? Nah. Equal rights for women and minorities? Fuhgeddaboudit. Raise the minimum wage? Geddoudahere!

Americans, I gotta ask ya: when does this nonsense end?
