Notes from the November Meeting

Rossi, Chris Head BoxBy Chris Rossi

(Town of Hamilton, NY – Dec. 2014) The snow is here, and the holidays are not far behind. We started the November Hamilton Town Council meeting with news of upcoming tree lightings – on the Village Green in Hamilton Dec. 5 and in Earlville Dec. 13.

Mayor Margaret Miller reported on the new fencing that is being installed at the Airpark. The village is also working on zoning revisions around the boarding house regulations. Earlville is updating its animal regulations and has hired a new codes officer, Lloyd Sutton.

Our town highway garage is ready for winter, with a new emergency generator installed. Our plow trucks have already been on the road with the first snows of the season. Hamilton’s road crew continues its policy of sharing services and equipment with Earlville and other local towns.

After many work sessions, public meetings and press releases, the Hamilton Town Council passed the 2015 budget.

Please welcome our new bookkeeper, Brynley Wilcox. Brynley is already working along with the rest of the town office team to track our finances and eliminate waste and overspending.

The town of Hamilton continues to work with SOMAC to ensure a sustainable future for the organization. Hamilton and a portion of Lebanon could become part of a taxing district to generate the funds to keep SOMAC operational and responsive to our community’s needs.

Our local road use law is making its way to being finalized and adopted. Delta engineering has carried out its road study and created the baseline data that informs the law. Brookfield and Lebanon are joining Hamilton in enacting the law for use in their towns.

The Deer Management Task Force reported on a meeting with Cornell personnel who have been wrestling with the same issue. They will be sharing techniques for deer population management that could be a good fit for our town. In the meantime hunting season is on, which can spur movement of deer. Be safe and keep an eye out for deer on the road.

The Hamilton Town Council meets at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the Town of Hamilton office at 16 Broad St., Hamilton. We invite and encourage you to join us. For more information, visit townofhamiltonny.org/.
