The WRight Way

Wright, RonBy Ron Wright

(Dec. 2014) Several current items in other newspapers are worthy of comment…

First, a letter in another paper by a former military service person who has a problem with terminology about war and peace pertaining to observances of Armistice Day/Veterans Day. The writer laments that Americans are too “patriotic” regarding winning wars on a “peace day” with the emphasis “on soldiers in full combat dress.”

Does any country ever prevail in a war where the populace cowardly waves white flags and does not enthusiastically support their troops? He goes on to explain, “If only the peacemakers were allowed to prevail, international issues would be resolved non-violently.”

An analogy: If only people refused to do anything but talk nicely to those pesky bank-robbers, drive-by shooters and mass-murderers, the latter would just evaporate, and no more crime would exist. How about this one: If there were no doctors, there would be no sickness? Or if the good guys would just stop resisting, there would no longer be any bad guys?

Those with their heads in the clouds and standing on their pedestals above mere mortals continue to believe the bad guys in the world would not be there if civilized mankind would just give up any physical resistance and offer sweet platitudes. No war is fun, but many are justified in being the only way of stopping an aggressor other than capitulation.

Some wars may later, usually much later, be deemed to have been wrong or improperly fought, but this is after the fact. In any event, this all reminds me of that famous pacifist, Cindy Sheehan who famously said, “Nothing is worth fighting for.”

Let’s be glad so few people believe this.

A news service reports a United Nations panel is demanding America come clean about police brutality in Ferguson, Mo., Guantanamo Bay conditions and torture of Islamic terrorists. The U.N. officials had previously taken testimony from “anti-torture activists,” “death penalty experts,” a former Guantanamo detainee and others.

Your predictable Leftist laundry list, anyone? In the article, the Obama administration predictably blamed George Bush. (Didn’t Ferguson happen just recently, not more than six years ago?) Ever hear about a book called “The Death of Outrage?” Tell you what; let’s hogtie said U.N. officials and give them a one-way air flight to that nirvana/paradise also known as North Korea, where 25 million people are held in virtual slavery by a few thousand sadistic criminal gang members called the DPRK.

Many of those 25 million innocent North Koreans, of course, face perennial concentration camp conditions, starvation or a firing squad for doing or saying anything the regime finds not to their liking…. Or better still, let’s escort said U.N. officials to some ISIS stronghold in Syria or Iraq where caliphate nation officials can listen to the U.N. question them about barbarism.

Just advise the families of those U.N. officials where they wish the decapitated heads and various body parts of the U.N. officials to be sent to.

Finally, talking about the Ferguson, Mo., situation again … as of this writing, no one knows if extended riots will occur or if the policeman involved behaved criminally. Let us wait for the grand jury. In any event, U.S. Attorney Holder is waiting with baited breath to send in the feds if the local grand jury does not render the “correct” verdict.

Our president reportedly continues to inspire the potential rioters but has said little about avoiding looting or the downsides of smashing windows and burning police cars. Meanwhile, in Chicago, people are tripping over murdered black Americans in the street while the hyper-libs like Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the U.S. attorney general, Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson do nothing and say nothing about the black-on-black carnage in that city.

No political news there. Hey, you can always blame George Bush. Another example of race-card-ism on the left.
