Southern Tier, Central New York, Mohawk Valley regions each receive $70,000
(Jan. 2015) U.S. Representative Richard Hanna today announced that the Economic Development Administration awarded $210,000 in grant funding to agencies in upstate New York to promote economic development and job creation.
In the 22nd Congressional District, three regions were each awarded $70,000 to establish an economic development planning framework process and strategy that supports private capital investment and job creation in the region.
This EDA planning investment supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the following regions:
Southern Tier: The grant is awarded to the Southern Tier East Regional Planning and Development Commission, which comprises the counties of Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, and Tioga.
Central New York: The grant is awarded to Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board, which comprises the counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego, and the city of Syracuse
Mohawk Valley: The grant is awarded to the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, which comprises the counties of Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego, and Schoharie.
This funding process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
“It is my hope that this grant funding will be instrumental in helping to strengthen public/private partnerships to create more jobs for upstate New Yorkers,” Rep. Hanna said. “It can grow our local economies and create a strategy for keeping our neighbors working and our communities strong for years to come.”
