Stethoscope for web(Oneida, NY – Jan. 12, 2015) Due to the current numbers of cases of influenza or influenza-like illness in our community, Oneida Healthcare is instituting precautionary measures to ensure a safe environment for patients, residents, visitors and employees. “We’re asking for everyone’s help and cooperation regarding these restricted visitation guidelines,” said spokesman Mike Healy.

*Patients & Residents are asked to discourage or limit the number of visitors coming to the hospital or Extended Care Facility during this period.

*Visitors should stay home if they are sick, for example, have a cough, cold symptoms, and/or have a fever (100.4 F or higher).

*No visitors under the age of 18 are permitted at this time.

*If the visitor isn’t sure if he/she is ill and has not had a flu shot this season, he/she must wear a mask while in the facility.

*Please wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.

*If you have a cough or sneeze, please do so in the inside of your elbow, on your sleeve – not your hand.  If you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately and sanitize hands immediately afterward.

*Visitors should sanitize their hands upon entering and when leaving the facility (look for wall dispensers).

*Visitors should wear the personnel protective equipment required if the patient is on isolation precautions.

The guidelines are posted at all entrances to the hospital.  Healy said that the restricted visitation policy is temporary but will remain in effect until further notice.  “It’s in everyone’s best interest and we appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation,” he concluded.
