Earlville Opera House(Earlville, NY – March 2015) Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. This year, Earlville Opera House will be organizing the Artistic Discovery Contest on behalf of Madison County.

Teachers in Madison County schools are invited to submit their student’s work to the Opera House March 10-14. The competition is open to high school students only. Exceptions may be made for schools that have 7th through 12th grades on one campus.

Artwork must be two-dimensional. EOH will recruit judges to select the work from Madison County that will then go to the Representative Richard Hanna’s office.  Each participating county will send six winners to the next level of competition.

The next round of judging will be at the District-wide art show on Saturday, April 18 at the Roberson Museum and Science Center in Binghamton (30 Front Street).  Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC.  The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
