(Oneida, NY – March 2015) To raise awareness for homelessness in Madison County, Melissa King, coordinator of the Karing Kitchen at the First United Methodist Church in Oneida, will sleep outdoors in a tent in front of the Karing Kitchen, Main and Grove streets. Anyone is welcome to join her to help raise awareness. She is asking those unable to join her to lower their thermostat that evening in solidarity.
Last year, more than 1,000 referrals were made to the Karing Kitchen to help individuals and families become more food secure.
The Karing Kitchen served more than 11,000 meals in 2014 to individuals, shut-ins and folks just in need of some extra food.
To join King, call her at 761-8135 or stop in the Karing Kitchen Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.
Despite the generosity of so many organizations and individuals throughout Oneida and the surrounding area, the Karing Kitchen needs help. Families in need and food prices both continue to rise.
The Karing Kitchen asks that any non-perishable food, paper products, brown lunch bags, disposable coffee cups, new dish towels, scrubbing sponges, bleach or Dawn dish soap that can be donated would be so very appreciated. Monetary donations and grocery store gift cards are also appreciated.

Items can be dropped at ACCESS Federal Credit Union, at the Methodist Church on Main and Grove streets Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to noon, at Holy Cross Academy during school hours, at the Medicine Shoppe or Oneida Office Supply in Oneida.
Karing Kitchen will run Monday through Saturday the Weeks of March 23 and April 20 for lunches.
