GSC logo high res(Town of Lenox, NY – March 2015) The Great Swamp Conservancy will hold the following upcoming programs.

Federal Junior Duck Stamp Exhibit: Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the GSC Museum. A collection, “Best of Show” with more than 50 paintings by youth, submitted to the annual art competition held for students K through 12.

March 28 “Waterfowl Friends,” the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program:  This program incorporates scientific and wildlife principles into a visual arts curriculum with the participants completing a Junior Duck Stamp design as their visual “term papers.” The winning design from the national contest is used to create the Junior Duck Stamp for the next year. Sold in the US Post Office and Amplex, cosignees like the Great Swamp Conservancy, the proceeds from the sale support conservation education. Waterfowl Friends meet each fourth Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. starting March 28 and then again April 25, May 23, June 27 and July 27. To register, call 697-2950. The fee is $25 for non-members and $20 for GSC members. The program is open to students K-12.

April 3 at 10 a.m. Annual Easter Egg Hunt: Coloring contest, fun games and foods in the museum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Hunt starts EGGS-actly at 11 a.m. and is divided into age groups. Donation suggested is a $1 per child.  This year the GSC will hold a duck race in July the weekend of July 25 and 26. A 50/50 opportunity to raise funds for the GSC, ducks will be available to purchase at the Easter Egg Hunt. They sell for $5 each or three for $12.

March 28 FrogWatch USA Training Sessions: Sessions will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.  Come and stay as long as you can to train to become a Citizen Scientist. Learn to assist national scientists in following the variety, volume and location of frog colonies. Frog health is a major indication of the Earth’s good/bad health. Learn to recognize area frog calls, how to record the data and where to submit your findings to the national data program. Receive the tools to assist the procedures. The classes will be conducted by Naturalist Susan Jones.
