(Madison County, NY – April 15, 2015) Madison County Farm Bureau has donated more than $3,600 to local FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapters to help defer the costs of attending the State FFA Convention in May at Morrisville State College. The recent donation was part of their commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by helping develop their potential for leadership while preserving and protecting agriculture for future generations.

The funds were raised in February from the first annual “Ag Trivia Night” held at Cazenovia Equipment in Cazenovia. It was a fun-filled event with more than 120 people in attendance for an agricultural-themed team trivia challenge. The attendees had time to mingle, bid on items in a silent auction, had dinner that consisted of locally grown food and then took part in the spirited main event.

“We feel very strongly about being able to help the next generation of agricultural leaders reach their goals and we are finding creative ways to accomplish this,” said Madison County Young Farmer and Rancher Chair Bailey Coon. “Ag Trivia Night not only allowed us to raise money for such a worthy cause, but also helped raise awareness of the agricultural community among the non-farm public.”

Coon noted that the event was so successful because of the support and the partnerships Farm Bureau has developed with businesses throughout Madison County.

“We are very thankful to all our wonderful sponsors who believe in what we do and understand the importance of our farms to the communities we live and work in,” Coon said.

The Madison, Stockbridge Valley, DeRuyter, Cazenovia and Hamilton FFA Chapters will travel to Morrisville May 14 to 16 for the Convention. FFA programs and agricultural education in Madison County schools provides the necessary foundation to keep farming viable for future generations. The enacted state budget continues and expands funding for these and other programs that will help mold our future leaders.

Madison County Farm Bureau is dedicated to solving the economic and public policy issues challenging the agricultural community. The county is part of New York Farm Bureau, the largest agricultural advocacy group in New York State, known to members and the public as “The Voice of New York Agriculture.”
