Girl Scouts New Use this(New Hartford, NY – May 2015)  Local Girl Scouts are among the more than 800 in a 26-county area that have received the prestigious Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

The prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement girls can earn in Girl Scouting. This award challenges girls to change the world – or at least their corner of it – and be eligible for college scholarships. In order to earn the award girls participate in activities of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and spend 80 hours working on a community service project that has a sustainable impact on their communities. Two local girls are among those in the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways that have earned the award this year. Their recognition takes place at the Young Women of Distinction ceremony following the council’s annual meeting on May 30 at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva. Local girls earning the Gold Award are:

Krystyna Hurd of Camden and Danielle LaGrange of Little Falls.

Girls that have earned the Girl Scout Silver and Bronze awards will be recognized at a reception on June 12 in New Hartford.

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award girls in sixth through eighth grades can earn. Earning the award gives girls the chance to show that they are leaders who are organized, determined, and dedicated to improving their communities. To earn the award girls participate in activities of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and spend at least 50 hours working on a community service project that provides a positive lasting impact on their community. Area girls earning the Girl Scout Silver Award this year are:

Rachael Ellard of Ilion; Macie Ford, Alexis Newbury, and Serafina Sortino of Utica; Sandra Gonyea, Samantha Hoke, Sarah Howe, and Hannah Spofford of Dolgeville; Maggie Hewitt and Jordan Roy of Clinton; Kaitlyn LaGrange of Little Falls; Sophie Norton and Holly Sagrestano of New Hartford; Elizabeth Popyack of Franklin Springs; Kinsey Randall of Salisbury Center; Anica Shepherd of Clark Mills; and Destiny Tayler of Mohawk.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award girls in fourth and fifth grades can earn. Girls can work within their troops to earn the award. As girls earn the award they develop more confidence, meet new people, and have the kind of fun that happens when they work with other Girl Scouts to make a difference. To earn the award girls also participate in activities of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and spend at least 20 hours working on a community service project that makes a positive impact on their community. Local Girl Scout troops earning the Bronze Award this year are:

Troop 20015 and Troop 20353 of Chittenango; Troop 20049 of Cherry Valley, Fort Plain, and Cooperstown; Troop 20087 of New Hartford, Utica, Whitesboro, New York Mills, and Yorkville; Troop 20156 of Clinton, Waterville, and Clark Mills; Troop 20441 of Vernon, Verona, Sherrill, Durhamville, and Rome; Troop 20619 of Mohawk and Ilion; Troop 20724 of Oneida; Troop 20787 of Richfield Springs; Troop 20967 of Springfield Center and Cherry Valley; and Troop 28261 of Little Falls.
