Plant Sale(West Winfield, NY – May 2015) A variety of locally grown perennials and professionally raised vegetable seedlings, annual bedding plants and hanging flower baskets will be for sale at the Upper Unadilla Valley Association’s (UUVA) annual Plant and Garden Fair on Saturday May 16 in the Town of Winfield Park on Route 20.

The sale, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will feature dozens of perennial varieties donated by local gardeners at prices ranging from $2 to $5 per pot.  None will be sold before 10 a.m.

Sirko’s Greenhouse of Leonardsville also will offer a selection of annual bedding plants and hanging flower baskets, as well as some vegetable seedlings.

The event will include two gift basket raffles, with tickets costing $5 each or $10 for three.  These include:

A local products basket with a flowering potted plant from Sirko’s Greenhouse, a quart of maple syrup from the Dale Gates family sap house, cheese from Poplar Hedge Farm, a jar of honey and scented soaps made from beeswax and honey from Heartsease Hill, a UUVA mug from Spooner’s pottery, and notecards featuring area landscape and nature photos by Wendy Barrett.

Tickets for the annual “duck derby,” a plastic duck race in the park’s creek, cost $3 per duck or two ducks for $5.  The ticket holder with the fastest duck will win half of the proceeds.  Tickets are available at the plant sale or in advance from association directors.

The UUVA is a non-profit organization that has worked for more than 45 years to protect and preserve the Upper Unadilla Valley’s natural and historic resources.

That region includes West Winfield, Unadilla Forks, Leonardsville, Bridgewater, West Edmeston and surrounding vicinities.  The plant fair is held each year on the third Saturday in May.
