Lorenzo State Historic Site

lorenzo-historic(Cazenovia, NY – May 2015) Each year since 2003, in celebration of “Preservation Month,” The Friends of Lorenzo sponsor a variety of programs and presentations that focus on noteworthy historic preservation topics in and around Cazenovia.  These activities have included various walking tours throughout the village, site visits to exemplary restored buildings and presentations by experts on an array of subjects– from preservation policy, to significant restoration projects, to sources of funding for historic preservation.

Two special programs are planned by The Friends for this May: a May gallery show at the Cazenovia Public Library and a presentation on funding opportunities for historic religious properties in New York State.

Through May 28 a display of artwork and photographic images “Celebrating the Architectural Design of Lorenzo” will be featured in the Cazenovia Public Library gallery. Constructed over the period of 1807-08, the Lorenzo mansion is considered one of Central New York’s finest examples of neoclassical design, and the show will include works by Gene Gissin, Deborah Wester, Roger DeMuth, Judy Goldthwait, Christian Phillips, Scott Phillips and Kevin Mann. The show is free and open to all during May public hours at the Library.

Then on Thursday May 28 at 7 pm, Ann-Isabel Friedman of the Landmarks Conservancy in New York City will present “Saving Central New York’s Sacred Properties.” As Director of the Conservancy’s SACRED SITES program, Friedman will showcase both past support and future funding opportunities as made possible by SACRED SITES.

Since its founding in 1986, SACRED SITES has helped more than 720 houses of worship throughout New York State that have received more than $8.4 million in grants from the Sacred Sites Fund, supporting over $570 million in restoration and repair projects in the state. SACRED SITES is the oldest and largest statewide grant program to help landmark religious properties. This program will take place at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 12 Mill St. in Cazenovia; free and open to the public, the Friends will sponsor a reception immediately following the presentation.

For more information about these free programs, please contact Diane Voss at 315-655-3200 at Lorenzo.
