(Town of Lenox, NY – May 2015) The Great Swamp Conservancy Inc. of Canastota has announced that it was one of only 76 recipients in the state to receive a grant from the New York State Conservation Partnership Program. This program is funded by the Environmental Protection Fund. Governor Cuomo announced the awards of the grants April 20.
The Cazenovia Preservation Foundation is the other Central New York Land Trust to receive a grant. They received $24,500 that will be used to support new outreach programs and a part-time staff person.
The Great Swamp Conservancy received $28,000 and will hire a part-time person who will assist at both education and outreach.
The GSC is an 18 year old, all volunteer organization.
The Conservancy is well known for its many community and family oriented events.
The educational programs are well known throughout three counties.
The GSC touts more than seven miles of trails that are mowed weekly and open to the public.
