Submitted by Chris Rossi for Hamilton Town Council

(Hamilton, NY – July 2015) The June Hamilton Town Council meeting opened with approval of minutes and payments.

Superintendent Bert Glazier reported that the highway department has been busy repairing roads and ditches. The Town is submitting a grant application to the Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) 2015 Water Quality Improvement Program to help offset 75 percent the cost of a new salt storage facility at the town garage. This structure is required by the DEC to prevent run-off into Sangerfield Creek, and will also save the town money by preventing loss of salt. The town will be working with the engineering firm Barton & Loguidice to design and locate the building.

The Town Council approved reports by our town clerk, bookkeeper, and codes officer.

SOMAC (Southern Madison Ambulance Corps) board member Vinny Faraone provided an update on changes made over the past few months that have created greater efficiencies and savings for the ambulance service. Chief among them are the creation of a director of operations position, the recruitment of new paramedics and emergency medical technicians, a change in billing service, and preparation for an audit with the help of a new bookkeeper. SOMAC continues to refine its operations and rebuild its volunteer base. The Town Council will receive another report as these new initiatives take effect and the discussion continues on how to keep cost of ambulance service as low as possible for our community.

The village of Hamilton is moving forward with its Deer Management Committee sponsored cull, scheduled for the fall. The Town reminds landowners who live outside of the villages that they can apply for a nuisance permit from the DEC. The permit allows large landowners whose property is suffering from deer damage to take deer out of season, and to exceed the usual limit. Contact the town office for more information at (315) 824-3380.

The town council passed a resolution to schedule a public hearing on the annexation of property for Good Nature Brewing by the Village of Hamilton. The change will allow the brewery, in its new location south of Colgate on Route 12B to benefit from village electric, water and sewer utilities. The public hearing for both the village and the town will be held on July 27 at the village courthouse.

The Hamilton Town Council meets on the second Thursday of the month at the town of Hamilton office at 16 Broad St. in the village of Hamilton at 7 p.m. Our next regular meeting is Thursday July 9 at 6 p.m. to avoid conflict with the Symphoria concert on the Hamilton Village Green. We invite and encourage you to join us.
