(Town of Lenox, NY – Sept. 2015) In honor of the migratory birds returning to their winter homes where the food source is more abundant, the Great Swamp Conservancy will host its 14th annual Fall Migration Festival Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Nature Center is located at 8375 N. Main St. Road in Canastota.
Cindy Page’s “Birds of Prey” will be one of the many attractions along with a chicken barbecue, artists, crafters and antique/collectable vendors selling their wares.
Onondaga Audubon will have a booth along with the GSC Monarch and Bird migration exhibits. Take a guided bird walk with expert birders.
Madison County 4-Hers will be bringing animals that they have raised. Observe the Northern Bob White Quail and visit the GSC rabbit project: “If you care leave them their.”
The children’s Nature Nut area will have an obstacle course, crafts, creepy-crawly creature guided walks in search for anything that crawls.
Stop by the Basket Extravaganza booth and try your luck at winning assorted themed baskets.
Take a migration ride (weather permitting) by tractor and wagon to the Anne V. Pickard overlook; a great migratory resting area: every hour on the hour.
The “Nights of the Mohawks” Barbershop Quartet and bluegrass band “Genesee Ted” will fill the air with music for the day.
Picnic on the grounds or take out the GSC chicken barbecue starting at 11 a.m. and serving until gone. $10 per meal includes: 1/2 chicken, baked beans, baked potato, roll, water and dessert. If one prefers, half-chicken only-$6.
This is a hometown, family oriented, country-style celebration.
Suggested donation: $3/Adult, $2/member and children under 12-$1.
There are outdoor vendor spaces available for a $10 fee.
