(Cazenovia, NY – Oct. 2015) All are welcomed Oct. 7 at 5:30 pm for a viewing of Rachel Is, a documentary film where in her feature directorial debut, Charlotte Glynn moves home to chronicle her sister Rachel’s last year in high school. Rachel is a young woman with a developmental disability and wishes to work and live independently as she approaches adulthood.

Rachel Is addresses current issues that many individuals and families face and moves past the safety of political correctness and into the most intimate and honest moments in their family’s life.  Rachel Isexposes the fears and anxieties a single mother and her daughter face.  It is an honest, heartbreaking and funny film about parenthood, disability and the universal struggle for happiness.

Following the film, a panel of individuals will take the stage to address comments and questions from the audience.  On the panel will be representatives from The Arc of Madison Cortland and Cazenovia College.  Representing The Arc will be Jack Campbell, Executive Director, Deborah McGowan, Board Member and Family Advocate, and Nichole Hastings, Self Advocate.  Representing Cazenovia College will be Mary Handley, Humanities Professor, Erica Miller Education Professor, and moderating the discussion will be Maureen Louis, Communications Professor, The Arc of Madison Cortland Board Member, and Family Advocate.

All are welcomed to participate and share personal and political experiences that individuals and families with intellectual and developmental disabilities encounter.

The event is free and is sponsored by The Arc of Madison Cortland and is hosted and supported by Cazenovia College.  Rachel Is will be shown in the Cazenovia College Catherine Cummings Theater located on Lincklaen Street in Cazenovia.
