(Canastota, NY – Oct. 2015) Thomas Burgess, a casework supervisor in the Onondaga County Department of Adult and Long Term Care Services’ Adult Protective division, was recently honored at the 26th Annual National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA) Conference held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 in Orlando, Fla. He was recognized with the 2015 Spirit of NAPSA Award given to a front-line Adult Protective Services (APS) staff person in recognition of significant contributions to the growth and development of the APS program in the local community as well as to the field of abuse intervention.
Burgess is a graduate of Syracuse University, where he received his undergraduate degree in Speech Communications and Education before doing post-graduate work at Le Moyne College to earn certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. After serving for two decades in the field of education, he began working for Onondaga County. He is also an ordained minister, formerly with Redeemer Church in Utica and now pastor of Hope Christian Fellowship in Canastota.
