(Cazenovia, NY – Nov. 2015) On Sunday Nov. 8 The First Church of Cazenovia will incorporate a Veteran’s Day observance into the morning worship at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

A fully-equipped and staffed nursery is available for infants and toddlers.  School-aged children are dismissed to a special Sunday School mid-way through the service.

The Senior Choir will sing a special rendition of God Bless America composed by Irving Berlin and arranged by Joseph M. Martin.  The congregation will sing a variety of patriotic hymns.  Scripture will be read by local veterans.

Colonel Kurt Wheeler will deliver the homily.  Wheeler is a graduate of Cazenovia High School and Harvard College, where he studied Government and International Relations on a Marine Option NROTC scholarship.  He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps in 1989 and served a combat tour in Operation Desert Storm.  After leaving active duty, he accepted a Reserve commission and gained private sector experience as a Mortgage Banker and Defense Policy Analyst before returning to Harvard for his Masters Degree in History Education.

Wheeler just began his 20th year as a teacher at Cazenovia High School where he also serves as the Social Studies Department Leader and coaches cross country and track.

Wheeler serves as the Officer in Charge of the Marine Corps History Division Field History Detachment in Quantico, Va.  He was mobilized and deployed to Iraq in 2006 and has edited and authored multiple books and articles on Marine Corps History.

Wheeler also serves as the Mayor of Cazenovia where he resides with his wife Becky and four daughters.
