Realityckimage1(Chittenango, NY) On Friday Dec. 4, Chittenango Middle School students hosted a Smoke Free Movie Night at their school hoping to spread an anti-tobacco message. The seventh grade students have been planning this event since October.

“We have been working with the anti-tobacco program Reality Check and after some of the things we learned, we wanted to host a movie night. This night is important because we want to show that movies can be just as good without smoking in them,” said Hope Toombs, seventh grader at Chittenango Middle School.

The students decided to show The Nightmare Before Christmas, a movie put out by Disney. Disney decided this year that all of their youth rated films will have no smoking. Because of this, the students had a table set up so people could sign letters to Disney, thanking them for this decision. The letters will be cc’d to other movie studios and the Motion Picture Association of America in hopes that other studios will follow suit.
