Mad Co Sheriff's Dept(Canastota, NY – Dec. 14, 2015) Three people are facing several charges after being arrested on weapons charges by Madison County Sheriff’s Investigators as a result of an investigation into the possible sale of stolen firearms.

The arrests took place with the assistance of the Canastota Police Department after the sale of the alleged stolen firearm took place on the grounds of the South Side Elementary School in Canastota.

Jeffrey N. Cox, 17 of Canastota was arrested and charged with third-degree Criminal Sale of a Firearm (D felony), fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon (A Misdemeanor), fifth-degree Conspiracy (A Misdemeanor) after working in concert with a 14 year old to sell a .38 handgun.

Cox was arraigned in court remanded to the Madison County Jail on $7,500 cash bail/$15,000 bond.  Bond was later posted.

Erika Pieterek, 16, of Canastota was arrested during this incident and charged with third-degree Criminal sale of a firearm (D Felony) and fifth-degree Conspiracy (A Misdemeanor).

Pieterek was arraigned in court and released on her own recognizance. Pieterek is to answer her charges at a later date.

Also charged was a 14 year male from Chittenango. The juvenile was charged with third-degree Criminal sale of a firearm (E felony), fourth-degree Criminal possession of a weapon (A Misdemeanor) and Criminal possession of a firearm on school grounds (E Felony).  He will appear to answer those charges at the Madison County Probation Department at a later date.
