(Town of Brookfield, NY – Jan. 31, 2016) John Salka, supervisor of the Town of Brookfield, is announcing his candidacy for election as Assemblyman for New York’s 121st district. Salka seeks the Republican Party’s endorsement in his second bid for the seat.
“We were narrowly defeated two years ago and are now receiving a groundswell of support and encouragement to finish the job,” Salkda said. “We are working to replace our local representative and bring change to Albany that reflects the needs of the district.”
“Our campaign and future Assembly service will address revising current policies governing ethics,” said Salka. “We will focus on the needs of our local farming communities and will concentrate our energies on small business and job growth through diversity and retraining.”
Salka takes the position that high taxes and regulations are driving people and businesses from our state.
“As a former small business owner and employer I have had the experience of trying to grow and achieve success in an environment that stifles growth, inhibits innovation, and simply makes it difficult or impossible to look ahead,” he said.
Salka said he will focus on issues that he feels affect everyone in his district, if not throughout the state. His seven years of serving on the Brookfield Central School Board, where he was president for four of those years, has given him insight into education and the reforms needed.
As a licensed health care professional, Salka will concentrate on how to improve delivery of better health care to all, and said he will work hard to bring better services to rural areas. And as a representative of an agricultural community for more than 16 years, Salka believes he knows how to address issues affecting farmers throughout the district.
Salka has resided in North Brookfield for 25 years with his wife Erin and son Aleksandr. He serves on the Madison County Board of Supervisors, and is Chairman of the Planning and Economic Development and Public Works Committees. He serves on a multitude of boards including the Industrial Development Corporation and the Madison County Soil & Water Conservation district. He was the past vice president of the Madison County Board of Health, and is director of Cardiopulmonary Services at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
“We will energize the 121st district and work together to bring needed change including ethics reform to Albany,” Salka said. “The current state of affairs in our capital is unacceptable and new blood is needed to bring about fresh leadership and ideas. I look forward to serving the citizens of the 121st Assembly District and will always be there to listen to their concerns.”
