(Feb. 12, 2016) State Senator Joseph Griffo has been named to a top-tier position of leadership within the New York State Senate.
Senate Majority Leader John J. Flanagan recently named Senator Griffo, R-Rome, as Assistant Senate Majority Whip. This position will enable Senator Griffo to play an important and influential role in monitoring the progress of legislation and helping to secure votes in support of proposed legislation, while also continuing to take part in the development and implementation of policy.
Additionally, Senator Griffo also currently serves as chairman of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee, and sits on eight other committees including Finance, the most senior committee in the Senate.
Senate Majority Leader John J. Flanagan said: “Senator Griffo is a valuable, well-respected and hard-working member of the Senate Republican Majority, and a trusted voice for the Mohawk Valley and Upstate New York. In this new position, he will work closely with the members of the Republican conference and me to ensure we can move our agenda forward during the budget and legislative session so we can make New York a more affordable state in which to live and work, and improve the quality-of-life for each of our residents.”
Through his years in public service, Senator Griffo has harnessed an ability to respect differences of opinion and find common ground among those he may disagree with, Flanagan said. These attributes will serve Senator Griffo well as Assistant Majority Whip, the Leader continued, as he works with his colleagues in building support for legislation that benefits the residents of New York.
“I’m pleased to accept this important post, and I appreciate the Majority Leader’s confidence in my skills and abilities,” Senator Griffo said. “I look forward to being an active voice in this role as the Senate continues to move toward goals that will help the people of New York live more fulfilling and prosperous lives.”
