So the Pentagon has come out suggesting women should be required to register for the draft, and the media went into a frenzy. Women in the military? Horrors!

Well, let’s not be hasty, little Hobbits.  Just to name a few: Sharon and her sisters Lois and Joyce.  Our daughters Allison and Leslie. Carol and our daughter-in-law Angie.  That’s seven I know very well.  All seven served honorably and well.  Three of them put in twenty years or more.  So yes, you “nasssty little Hobbitses”  in the media – women gots no problem with military service. All seven have told me they’d have no problem with their daughters having to register.

But of course, on the strange planet Republicans come from, why, that just can’t be! Women in the service, especially in combat? A recipe for disaster, to quote more than one of the creatures vying for the Republican nomination.

Gosh, y’all, women have been in combat in America’s military for years now. Does the name Tammy Duckworth mean anything to our readers? There has been a female admiral in charge of an American battle fleet conducting combat operations. Women have successfully challenged the Army’s Ranger school. Women routinely fly warplanes off and back onto carriers at sea. Women maneuver our most fearsome armor and manhandle our heaviest artillery pieces in combat.

In short, ain’t no military tasks women are not up to.  So what’s the Republican problem? Oh, that’s right: those wooden heads are trapped in the past: women belong in the home, barefoot and pregnant. And to ensure they don’t have the capacity to resist, they’ll cut funds for health care for women and children, veterans and the disabled.  Cut funds for schools while they’re at it.  And then stand there and lie

And to ensure they don’t have the capacity to resist, they’ll cut funds for health care for women and children, veterans and the disabled. Cut funds for schools while they’re at it. And then stand there and lie through their teeth saying “Ain’t no war on women!”  Sure, and they do everything they can to put women down, even to the extent of ignoring Constitutional law.

No war on women?  Right, and the sun didn’t rise this morning.
