(Madison – UPDATED 032216 2:32 P.M.) The village of Madison bicentennial will kick off its calendar of events April 17, the actual birthday of the incorporated village, at Madison Central School. The village’s birthday party will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Student projects and artwork will be on display for public viewing. MCS drama students dressed in period attire will be on hand to guide visitors, and there will be special guests, music and, of course, cake.

The village’s birthday party will open at 1 p.m. with messages from Mayor Barbara Clark and Assemblyman Bill Magee. The MCS select chorus will sing a selection of patriotic songs, including the National Anthem. The birthday party will conclude with the singing of “Happy Birthday” by the select chorus, and birthday cake and cupcakes will be served until gone.

During the celebration, there will be two bus tours leaving from the school that will visit historical homes, businesses and churches in the village. Period actors will narrate the tours, which will depart from the school at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and take approximately an hour-and-a-half.

Bicentennial events will continue throughout May – stay tuned for more details. The bicentennial committee continues to invite local businesses and individuals to participate in the bicentennial celebration. Anyone interested in participating, entering a float in the parade, or donating time and materials should contact Clark at 315.893.1894, villageofmadison@yahoo.com or Madison Historian James Ford at jnford47@hotmail.com.
