State Police in Remsen arrest Utica man for Unauthorized Use of a Computer

On March 24, 2016, State Police in Remsen arrested Branden Dejesus, age 27, of Utica, NY, for Unauthorized Use of a Computer (class A misdemeanor).

Dejesus is accused of accessing the messaging application account of another person without authorization.

Dejesus was released on an appearance ticket returnable April 4, 2016, in the Town of Trenton Court.

Troopers locate vehicle wanted in shoplifting incident

On March 24, 2016, at approximately 4:00 pm, State Police in Lysander were dispatched to the Victoria’s Secret store located in the Great Northern Mall, for a report of a larceny in progress.
Responding Troopers were able to locate and stop the suspect’s vehicle, as it was fleeing the scene, on State Route 481, just South of Soule Rd in the Town of Clay.  The proceeds from the theft, 34 articles of clothing valued at $1,545, were located inside the vehicle, as were all four suspects.

The investigation determined that a woman, accompanied by two teenage girls ages 14 and 16 along with a teenage boy, age 15, entered the business and worked as a team to commit the crime.  The woman and the 16 year old, distracted staff while the 14 and 15 year old, ran off with armfuls of tops, pants and other merchandise.

Shantia C. Weaver, age 30, of 135 W. Pleasant Ave, Syracuse, was arrested for Grand Larceny in the fourth degree, (3 counts) Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Possession of an Anti-Security Item.

Tricara Y. Weaver, age 16, the driver of the vehicle, was charged with Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, a class “E” felony.

Both will appear in The Town of Clay Court on March 31, 2016.

The 14 and 15 year-old were charged with Grand Larceny in the 4th degree and will appear in Onondaga County Family Court on a later date.

Aggravated DWI charged after traffic stop in Oneida Castle

Oneida based state police arrested a Blossvale man for Aggravated DWI following a traffic stop on Route 5 in Oneida Castle Thursday morning.At approximately 5:45am on March 24,

At approximately 5:45 a.m. March 24, off-duty Trooper Terry Horton was driving south along State Route 365 in the Town of Verona en route to the Oneida state police barracks to report for the day shift when he observed a 2008 Pontiac G6 travelling southbound behind him with no headlights on.

Horton was able to contact the night shift patrol that was working that area and Trooper Joseph Leworthy responded. Leworthy observed the Pontiac travelling west on Route 5 in Oneida Castle and activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle. The Pontiac turned into a parking lot and struck the rear of a parked car before coming to a stop.

Leworthy determined that the driver, Joseph P. Button, 24, of Saltzman Road, Blossvale, was intoxicated and, following field sobriety testing, placed him under arrest for DWI.  Button was processed at the SP Oneida barracks, where a breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .20 percent. Button was issued traffic tickets for DWI and aggravated DWI with a BAC of .18 percent or greater; he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Vernon Court April 20.

Cortland Woman found in possession of heroin following traffic stop on I-81

Billie J GarrowOn March 24, 2016 at approximately 12:57 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on Interstate 81 in the Town of Lafayette after it failed to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle. Investigation at the scene revealed several items within the vehicle consistent with recent heroin use. Back seat passenger Billie J. Garrow, 36, of Cortland, was found to be in possession of several envelopes of heroin concealed on her person.

Garrow was transported to the State Police Barracks in Lafayette where she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a class “A” misdemeanor. She is scheduled to appear in the Town of Lafayette Court on March 30, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.

Troopers Investigate a fatal one-car crash in Herkimer County

On March 24, 2016, at approximately 8:41 a.m., State Police in Herkimer responded to one-car fatal crash on State Route 8, just north of Nellis Road in the Town of Ohio.

The accident was reported by a Town of Ohio Highway Department worker who observed the vehicle overturned and down an earth embankment. Investigation at the scene revealed that the sole occupant, 42-year-old Brandy M. Whitaker of Cold Brook had failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway and traveled several hundred feet along the shoulder where her vehicle struck several trees, overturned and came to rest on the vehicle’s roof.

Whitaker was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing.
