Red-CrossGuest Speaker: Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral David M. Duryea

The American Red Cross will be hosting a Military Family Salute and Reconnection Brunch on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m.noon at the American Legion City Post 489 located at 212 Tompkins St. in Cortland. Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral David M. Duryea will serve as guest speaker.

A career submarine officer, Duryea commanded the USS Florida. As commander of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, he led 6,500 civilian personnel in 15 locations across the U.S. and overseas. Now Duryea holds the post of vice president for finance and management at SUNY Cortland and provides leadership, vision and direction for the institution. He is a member of the Naval Submarine League and the Military Officers of America Association.

The Military Family Salute and Reconnection Brunch is for military families, veterans and reservists. In addition to a complimentary brunch, attendees will have an opportunity to meet other local military families, learn about additional Red Cross services, as well as what services are available from other organizations. Entertainment for children will also be provided by Crossroads the Clown.

The brunch is part of the ongoing Centennial Celebration for the American Red Cross of Cortland County.  The Cortland chapter was chartered in August 1916, and events are being held throughout the area leading up to the 100th Anniversary.
