picture6The Madison County Dept. of Solid Waste and Sanitation is hosting two major events Saturday, April 30: A safe pill collection being held in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Pill Take-Back Day and a free shredding event for destruction of confidential documents.

Both events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the main landfill site on Buyea Road in Lincoln – just three miles south of the traffic light on Route 5 in Wampsville.

The pill collection and shredding event will be conducted in front of the ReUse Center on the east side of Buyea Road. Law Enforcement and landfill personnel will be on hand to direct residents to the safe pill collection and the free shredding event being conducted simultaneously Saturday, April 30, at the landfill site. Those attending these events are asked to follow the signs and obey traffic directions given by on-site staff.

Residents can drop off controlled and non-controlled prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines (liquids or pills), sharps (lancets and syringes), vitamins and veterinary medications. Keep the medications in their original containers; cross off personal information with a black marker. Sharps should be dropped off in red plastic bio-hazard containers available for free at any pharmacy in Madison County.

Those attending the free shredding event can shred up to three cubic feet (three file boxes) of confidential material onsite.

For more information on either or both events, call the Recycling Hotline at 800.721.2208.
