The Regional Superintendents Council recognized Madison-Oneida BOCES District Superintendent Jackie Starks during this year’s Annual Meeting for all of her hard work and dedication to the region during her 13 years at the helm of MOBOCES.
In a surprise move during the 48th Annual Meeting, Morrisville-Eaton Superintendent Mike Drahos and Madison Superintendent Perry Dewey, on behalf of their MOBOCES component superintendents, took center stage to present Starks with the inaugural Devoted Service Award. They recognized both her educational and community leadership on behalf of MOBOCES as well as her strong support for colleagues in their work.
“She has led this region during some of the most challenging times and is always there to provide support and guidance,” Drahos said during his award presentation. “Perhaps the most compelling case for this recognition is that Jackie is now, and has always been, about putting kids first. This is not just some convenient slogan for her. She always lights up when she is in a setting where kids are learning or performing.”
Starks told the 100 or so administrators and board members from both MOBOCES and all nine component districts that she was overwhelmed by the unexpected honor.
“I don’t think there is a greater gift than to be recognized by your peers,” she said.
