Assemblywoman calls for relief from state’s crushing tax burden

Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R,C – New Hartford) announced that today is New York State’s Tax Freedom Day, which represents the day New Yorkers have earned enough money to pay off their state and federal tax obligations. Earlier this week the Tax Foundation revealed New York has the third latest Tax Freedom Day in the nation, behind only New Jersey and Connecticut.

“Runaway state and federal taxes are why New York’s Tax Freedom Day is one of the last in the nation. Families across New York face a crushing tax burden that has caused the exodus of millions of New Yorkers in favor of states with lower taxes. We must address this critically important issue by cutting taxes and reducing spending to grow the economy,” Tenney said.

According to the Tax Foundation, Americans will spend more on taxes in 2016 than they will spend on food, clothing and housing combined.

“Constant taxation combined with the rising cost of food, gas and Thruway tolls are making it harder and harder for local families to balance their checkbooks without going into debt. I sponsor the Small Business Full Employment Act to cut superfluous spending and implement across-the-board tax relief for families and individuals throughout the state. I have consistently strived to improve our communities and I strongly encourage my colleagues to do the same,” said Tenney.
