On May 10, at approximately 2:06 a.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-90 for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle, Firuddin M. Shakhbazov, 28, of Amsterdam, was found to be intoxicated and in possession of cocaine. He was transported and processed at SP Albany, where his blood-alcohol content was determined to be 0.16 percent.
Additionally, he has a prior DWI conviction within the last 10 years and is required to operate a vehicle with an ignition interlock device. As a result, he was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, a class E felony; first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a class E felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; and operating a motor vehicle with no ignition interlock device, a class A misdemeanor.
Shakhbazov was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets returnable in Guilderland Town Court May 19 at 5:30 p.m.
