Statement from Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R,C-New Hartford)

As the governor and Senate release their latest solutions to the heroin epidemic I am dissatisfied with the Assembly Majority’s refusal to implement greater reforms.

My colleagues and I spent countless hours in Albany and across the state listening to the families and friends of heroin victims.

I welcome their input but fear the lack of urgency in attacking this issue by Assembly Democrats has left thousands of New Yorkers without the rehabilitation they need.

I have been calling for reforms and additional funding to help fight this issue and the Assembly Democrats have failed to provide meaningful solutions to this problem that is plaguing our communities.

Unfortunately, my Democrat colleagues in the Assembly prefer to focus on burdensome regulations for our small businesses and free tuition for illegal immigrants as priorities, while those struggling with addiction are forgotten. Despite Assemblyman Gottfried’s abandonment of heroin victims, we must continue to push legislation that improves treatment options and releases additional funding to combat this issue.

My colleagues and I remain committed to the cause and I will continue to fight for more funding for addiction treatment and prevention resources.
