TuttleBoatThe Boonville Black River Canal Museum will open its doors for the season on Memorial Day Weekend. It will be open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the end of June.

Continuing in July the museum will be open seven days a week through Labor Day, then back to weekends through Columbus Day.

The museum volunteers and board members have been busy this winter getting displays and pictures ready for the public’s enjoyment. They have also been readying the area for our newest display, the Bardo Blacksmith Shop. The blacksmith shop was donated by the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake.

The site on the museum complex is in the process of being prepared, complete with a cement pad and electricity. Also, the blacksmith shop will be weather proofed with a new roof and the building itself will be “tweaked” to withstand the elements.

None of this would be possible if not for the generous donation from the Adirondack Museum and the $10,000 grant from the Iroquois Pipeline Company. Work will continue through the summer, a grand opening will be announced at a later date.
