Milton C. Sernett PhD, author of Harriet Tubman: Myth, Memory, and History will be hosting the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum (NAHOF) from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 29. Visitors to the Hall of Fame are encouraged to learn facts about Tubman from the exhibits and from Sernett.
Sernett is professor emeritus Syracuse University in African-American studies and a founder and board member of the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum.
The Cabinet of Freedom discussed Tubman’s placement on U.S. currency at its last board meeting, expressing its pride in Tubman’s induction in 2005 with the first class of abolitionists. The Tubman news has energized the board for its seasonal opening. NAHOF is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, for special events, and by appointment.
CHANGING AMERICA, an exhibit from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture will open at NAHOF with a special program Saturday, June 4. The public is encouraged to attend the opening introduction, the reception with refreshments, and the musical program at 5255 Pleasant Valley Road, Peterboro.
