boy-fishing-clipart-free(Cazenovia – May 25) Have you always wanted to try your hand at fishing, but never had the equipment and know-how to get started? Now is your chance to explore the wonderful sport of angling.

The Cazenovia Public Library invites its patrons to participate in the Library Fishing Rod Loaner Program. The program is presented in partnership with the state Department of Environmental Conservation as part of the I FISH NY Program, an initiative aimed at increasing fishing participation and awareness of New York state’s outstanding fishing opportunities.

Funding is provided by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Federal Aid in Sport Fish and Wildlife Restoration. The Library extends special thanks to Tom Long and Trout Unlimited for generously offering to maintain the fishing rods.

Eligible card-holding patrons will be provided with spin casting rods and tackle boxes filled with angling essentials. Each box contains push-button floats in different sizes, various hooks, a hook disgorger, brass swivels, a stringer, and GoCaz information.

Additionally, participants will receive literature on freshwater sportfish, knot tying, casting, freshwater fishing regulations, and local fishing spots. Equipment may be borrowed for two weeks at a time. Fishing rods may be loaned to children under 16 years old or to individuals holding a valid New York fishing license.

Licenses are sold at most sporting good stores, town clerk offices, DEC offices, over the phone, online or by visiting www.dec.ny.gov. Participating patrons must provide their own bait and adhere to New York’s fishing regulations. Worms can be purchased at many local retail locations, bait shops and convenience stores.

Call ahead to reserve your fishing rod. For more information on the “Fishing Rod Loaner Program” or other Library events, call 315.655.9322 or visit www.cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.
