Pole Position Raceway announced yesterday that it has joined the fight against Alzheimer’s by partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter, to raise awareness and funds surrounding The Longest Day event Monday, June 20.
The Longest Day is a sunrise-to-sunset team event that symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers. In support of the cause, Pole Position Raceway is encouraging people to purchase races via the company’s Longest Day web page, where 100 percent of the proceeds from each individual race ($28) will go directly to the Longest Day fundraising effort. Those racing with a group of 10 people can purchase a private race for a donation of $280.
Each racer is required to bring their “Proof of Donation” to the track to redeem their race on event day. Pole Position Raceway will donate $5 per racer from each arrive and drive race purchased in venue that day. All races will occur from noon to 10 pm. June 20. For more information, or to donate, visit http://act.alz.org/goto/PolePositionRacewaySyracuse.
“We are proud to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter for another year,” said Karen Davis-Farage, president and co-owner of Pole Position Raceway venues in the East. “As Alzheimer’s is a very personal disease in our family, we have challenged our locations to see what venue can raise the most money for this important cause. We hope many will come out to race and we look forward to working with the great people of the Alzheimer’s Association to support all they do to battle this difficult disease.”
On The Longest Day, thousands of participants will complete approximately 16 hours of consecutive activities such as running, marathon games of bridge at local American Contract Bridge League locations, and hiking the Grand Canyon, to advance the cause.
“We are proud to have Pole Position Raceway returning for our annual The Longest Day fundraiser,” said Catherine James, Chief Executive Officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter. “Karen, Eyal and the whole Pole Position Raceway family is committed to the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association and have become a strong partner and advocate for our cause.”
Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only one for which there is no way to prevent, slow or cure. Over 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and as many as 16 million will have the disease by 2050. The cost of caring for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias is estimated to total $236 billion in 2016, increasing to $1.1 trillion (in today’s dollars) by mid-century. Nearly one in every three seniors who dies each year has Alzheimer’s or another dementia, according to the Alzheimer’s Association® 2016 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts & Figures report.
