state-police-seal-150x150Oneida-based state police charged a Whitesboro man with DWAI-drugs after being stopped following a pursuit into the Village of Wampsville in Madison County Monday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 18, a state police sergeant observed a 2006 Dodge Caravan pass through a red light at the intersection of State Route 290 and State Route 5 in the Town of Manlius. The van continued eastbound on Route 5 and the sergeant activated the emergency lights and siren on his patrol vehicle and attempted to stop the van.

The operator of the van refused to stop and continued eastbound along Route 5 through the towns of Sullivan and Lenox until finally pulling into the parking lot of a restaurant in the Village of Wampsville.  The driver was interviewed and identified as George B. White Jr., 24, of Ashwood Ave, Whitesboro.

White appeared to be impaired by something other than alcohol and, following field sobriety tests, was taken into custody for DWAI-drugs.  A vehicle search uncovered a quantity of Diazepam, which White was unable to provide a prescription for.  A DMV check showed that White’s driver’s license had been previously revoked.

White was transported to the SP Oneida barracks and evaluated by a state police drug recognition expert.  White was processed for DWAI- drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and a Public Health law violation and arraigned in the Town of Lenox Court.  White was remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond and scheduled to reappear July 22, 2016.
