Library offers full-day of free family-friendly fun with guests, activities, games, movies and more
FANDEMICON 2016 will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Utica Public Library! Last year, nearly 700 people attended the first FANDEMICON. This year, con-goers will see great presentations, take part in fun activities, and get a chance to buy cool items from vendors in the Exhibit Hall! Guest presenters include Chris Giarrusso, creator of G-Man; Charles Barnett III, comic book inker that has worked on titles for Marvel and DC; local puppeteers The Guild of Thespian Puppets; Starship Horizons Bridge Simulators and their interactive space flight simulator; members of Ithaca’s Wizard Weekend with a replica of the Weasley family’s Ford Anglia from the Harry Potter films; Imp-Probable Artists and their draconic photo booth; and upstate’s coolest DJ, DJ Silenze; video game developer Vicarious Visions which publishes the Skylanders franchise; and the return of everyone’s favorite astromech droid, R2-D2!
In addition to great guests, there will be fun activities all day, geared to participants of all ages, including video and board gaming, craft activities, film screenings, and a Cosplay Contest! Local food trucks will be on-site during lunch hours. There will also be opportunities to win cool prizes, including a basket filled with awesome pop culture items.
