Starting August 29, Oneida Public Library as part of the Mid York Library System offers patrons online and mobile access to free first-run movies, music, eBooks, audiobooks and even comic books through a partnership with Hoopla Digital.
Anyone with a Mid York Library System card can download Hoopla’s offerings online (see www.hoopladigital.com) or download Hoopla’s free mobile app on either an Android or IOS device. The apps are available at Google Play and the Apple Store.
Downloads can be made on demand at any time, whether for instant streaming or temporary downloading to smartphones, tablets and computers. Hoopla does not limit downloads per item, so Holds are never required.
“Hoopla Digital is a user-friendly and innovative service of the library that our patrons will be thoroughly excited about,” said OPL director Carolyn Gerakopoulos. “All they need is a library card in good standing, and they can easily register for Hoopla online.”
Hoopla Digital, a service of Midwest Tape, partners with public libraries across North America to provide online and mobile access to “thousands of movies, TV shows, music, eBooks, audiobooks and comics,” according to a company announcement.
Mid York card holders, once registered with Hoopla Digital, can borrow up to three items per calendar month from Hoopla. The borrowing period for eBooks, audiobooks and comic books is 21 days; for movies it is 72 hours; and for music seven days. Once the borrowing period is over, the borrowed items are automatically deleted. The service has no late fees.
