mapcompass-jpsherlockfishman-09072016-6084Registrations are now being accepted until September 16 for a Map & Compass Navigation Class for Women hosted by Great Swamp Conservancy in Canastota on Saturday, September 24 from 1:00 pm to 4:00pm for the New York State Beyond Becoming an Outdoors Women program (Beyond BOW).

Learn the language of navigation, how to select and calibrate a compass, read topographic maps, measure distances on the ground, take and project a bearing, and figure out where you are based on landmarks and triangulation. Then, you will try out your new skills by navigating through a set course. Space is limited.

Registration required.Deadline is Friday, Sept. 16. Participants must be at least 12 years old and registered by September 16. Minors must be accompanied by an adult participating in the class. Maps and compasses provided for the class.
