Caz libraryThe “Open Afternoon Book Club” will hold its next meeting in the Story Garden Room on Wednesday, September 21st, at 1:00 pm. The group will discuss Kristin Hannah’s epic historical fiction novel The Nightingale (2015). This #1 New York Times bestseller is a powerful tribute to the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and resilience of women during World War II.

The Nightingale tells the story of two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle, and their struggle to survive and resist the German occupation of France during the Second World War. Forced to make impossible decisions and endure unimaginable horrors, the sisters discover who they are and what they are capable of as the war wages on. Separated by age, distance, and disposition, Vianne and Isabelle follow very different paths on their journeys of survival, service, and self-discovery.

“[The Nightingale] is a beautifully written and richly evocative examination of life, love, and the ravages of war, and the different ways people react to unthinkable situations . . .” —Sara Gruen, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Water for Elephants
