(Wampsville) A vehicle that was reported stolen from a residence on Route 5 in Sullivan early Saturday morning was recovered Sunday afternoon; submerged in a pond on Oxbow Road, off Kirkville Road, in the Town of Cicero by members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Manlius Police Department and divers from the Minoa Fire Department.
The stolen vehicle report came on the heels of an investigation into an attempted break-in at a neighboring residence.
At 6:11 AM Saturday morning, an unknown person attempted to break into a residence on Route 5 near Quarry Road in the Town of Sullivan. The victim was sleeping when she was awoken by a noise coming from the rear of her residence. The victim proceeded into her kitchen where she observed a pair of hands with brown mesh gloves grasping the window sill through an open window. The victim yelled toward the suspect and slammed the window shut. The suspect fled in an unknown direction of travel. The victim called 911 and deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded but were unable to locate the suspect.
While speaking to area residents regarding the attempted break-in, another person advised that their blue 2008 H3 Hummer was just noted missing from their residence. Additional investigation, canvassing of the area, as well as statewide broadcast of the stolen vehicle information followed.
On Sunday afternoon, the blue Hummer was recovered from a pond in the Town of Cicero. The vehicle was retrieved and brought to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for processing, which was completed late this morning.
Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley is asking for the public’s help. If you have any information on either of these incidents, or were in the area of Route 5 between Chittenango and Canastota Saturday morning around 6 AM and saw any activity or noticed anything suspicious, or perhaps noted a blue Hummer in any of the area between Sullivan and the pond on Oxbow Road in Cicero where it was ultimately located, please contact Sergeant Julie Netzband of the Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 366 2834 or the Sheriff’s Major Crime Tip Line at (315) 366-2429.
