Madison County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Kayla M. Meade, 24, of Canastota, and charged her with third-degree grand larceny (a D felony), third-degree welfare fraud (a D felony), first-degree offering a false instrument for filing (a E felony) and third-degree perjury (an A misdemeanor).
It is alleged that Meade fraudulently filed a public assistance application with the Madison County Department of Social Services, claiming that she was not receiving any income, when she was actually receiving income from another source. As a result of this fraudulent act on Meade’s part, she illegally obtained $3,251.00 in public assistance, which she was not entitled to.
Meade was arraigned at the Lincoln Town Court where she was remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. She is due back in court at a later date to answer charges.
