suny_oswegoAudrey Burbidge of Cazenovia helped the Lakers defeat the Clarkson University Golden Knights in shutout fashion, 1-0, on Fridayafternoon.

Audrey Burbidge netted the deciding goal in this contest in the 62nd minute. The sophomore lofted the ball into the upper-left corner off a free kick to score her second goal of the season and put her team in the lead.

Oswego’s defense, led by goalie Melissa Siegfried, held steady for the rest of the game after shutting down the Golden Knights through the opening 60-plus minutes to that point. After managing nine shots in the first half, Clarkson was frustrated by the Laker pressure and only able to manage two shots in the final 45.

Siegfried tallied four saves on the afternoon to earn her third win and second shutout of the season in goal. The Mattituck native now ranks in the top-10 in Oswego State women’s soccer history for both shutouts and wins.

The senior is currently tied for ninth on the wins list, just one away from a tie for seventh place. On the career shutout list, Siegfried is tied for ninth with six and is only two away from moving into a tie for fifth.

A potent second-half offense including three corner kicks and 11 shots helped lead Oswego to victory.
