Eek! It’s Halloween! The Chenango Canal Association, together with friends and local businesses will sponsor a Halloween Happenin’ in Bouckville at the Chenango Canal Towpath Trail and Cottage Museum on the corner of State Route 20 and Canal Road on Saturday, October 15th from 5-8 pm.
For the little ones, we have the Bright Side of Halloween: This side is not so scary! Imagine learning something new at a Halloween event! Featured is scientist TJ Moorehead and his wife Angela Reed from Norwich, who perform real experiments to educate and entertain families in the Cottage Museum.
Then, kids and adults alike follow riddles and rhymes in a NEW Clues Hunt & Adventure Quest. Come dressed in costume to win ribbons for prettiest, cutest, funniest, scariest or most original in a Costume Contest.
Watch movies in the dungeon or play games. Trees are decorated with brilliant lights. More than a hundred Jack O-Lanterns are carved and mounted in displays. Take your picture with cut-out fairy tale figures along the Towpath Trail. Refreshments are offered to all plus the kids get a bag of Halloween candy.
Then there’s the Dark Side: Dare to walk along the Haunted Towpath, full of zombies and swamp monsters. Are they dead or alive? Is it a prop or is it real? Hauntings are brought to you by Madison Central School students who specialize in the undead. An eerie guide tells a story and chills your bones between 7 – 8 pm. Once you start, there’s no turning back!
The Oriskany Falls Rotary Club, Valley Propane, Kountry Kupboard, Colgate Bookstore, Kinney Drugs, Hamilton 4-H, Tanner Insurance, Quacks Village Inn, Waterman Pumpkin Patch, Madison County 4-H, Hamilton 4-H, Madison Central School Art Dept, FFA and the MCS Interact Group all helped make this event possible. The event is free to the public, but “donors are wanted”. “We don’t ask for an arm and a leg,” quips Diane Van Slyke, coordinator of the Halloween Happenin’.
Please note a sprinkle or light rain will not melt us, but if it pours or is extremely windy, the event is postponed to Sunday, October 16th. Call Diane at 315-729-8323for directions, cancellations or more information or check the website atwww.chenangocanal.org.
