Improved playground will make it easier for children with disabilities to enjoy outdoor recreation

Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) was joined by Main Street Early Education School staff and representatives from the North Syracuse Education Association in opening the improved Main Street Early Education Playground in North Syracuse Friday, Oct. 7.
The improved playground, which was made possible by a $25,000 grant secured by Assemblyman Stirpe, will be used by both children with and without disabilities that attend this inclusive preschool.

“Regardless of a child’s ability, he or she should be given the opportunity to grow in an inclusive environment,” said Stirpe. “The new playground with the latest in accessible and rehabilitative equipment will ensure that children have an opportunity to play and spend time outdoors. It will strengthen the rehabilitative capacities of this school and allow children to overcome their physical limitations and put them on a path to success.”

The North Syracuse Early Education Program was established by Dr. Warren Grund and a small staff in 1980. Students with disabilities who attend the school receive therapy services from a team of professionals who work to inspire personal growth. Thanks to the support of many community members, dedicated teachers and rehabilitation professionals, the Main Street school has grown to 350 students.

Stirpe has been long been committed to the North Syracuse Early Education Program, securing additional aid for the school each of the past four years he served in the state Assembly. Assemblyman Stirpe continued his commitment to the school this year, securing $200,000 in additional education aid for the North Syracuse Early Education Program.
