One of our favorite events of the year happens in November. It is our Children’s Doll Tea Party. This year will be our fourth annual Doll & Tea Party at the Library. We’ll be gathering on Saturday, November 12 from noon until 2pm to enjoy tea, punch, cookies and fun with our favorite dolls. Everyone comes dressed in their nicest finery and we have crafts and activities for everyone who attends. We will also be raffling off an American Girl Doll (Isabelle) on the day of the tea. Tickets are available at the library. Reservations and pre-payment will be necessary for this event as space is always limited! The cost to attend is $2.50 per person. Please visit the library in person to reserve space for you and your child. No telephone reservations will be accepted and children must be accompanied by an adult during this afternoon tea! This program is geared towards children ages 5 – 12 with an adult.

The Featured Artists in our Lawson Community Room for the months of November are the Swamp Snappers. The Swamp Snappers are the Great Swamp Conservancy’s photography group. Their beautiful photographs of wildlife, flowers and landscapes will also be available for sale during the duration of their exhibit. These photographs make great holiday gift items for those who love the outdoors! A reception for the Swamp Snappers will be held on Monday, November 7 at 7pm.

Come and create art from books with us on Wednesday, November 16 at 7pm. Liz Metzger will walk us through folding book pages into a beautiful Fir Tree design. The library will provide all the supplies and directions needed to make this delightful holiday decoration. Please sign up at the library!

On Tuesday, November 1 at 1pm, Book Chat will meet in the Lawson Community Room. The book the group will read for this meeting is “The Beekeeper’s Apprentice” by Laurie King. The book details the life of fictional Marry Russell. After losing her family in a tragic motor accident in California, fifteen-year- old Mary Russell goes to live with her aunt in Sussex, England. Wandering the Sussex Downs in April 1915, she literally runs across 54-year-old Sherlock Holmes, who has retired from his London practice and keeps bees. The two quickly become fast friends, Russell finding in Holmes a kindred spirit and steadfast teacher and Holmes finding in Russell a quick mind and a worthy apprentice in the art of detecting. If you’ve read the book, we hope you will attend and join in our discussion.

The library staff wants to wish all of our patrons a very Happy Thanksgiving. The library will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 for Thanksgiving. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. We will reopen on Saturday, November 26 at 10am.

We hope you’ll stop in to see us…anytime! The Canastota Public Library is located at 102 W. Center Street in Canastota.
