Myers Stresses Importance of Rome-Area Assets and Jobs, applauds community for working together
Congressional candidate Kim Myers visited Griffiss International Airport and also received a briefing on the government assets and private companies operating at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park. Thousands of people are employed at these various facilities with a staggering financial impact on the Rome and Oneida County economy.
Myers received briefings from Russell Stark, Aviation Commissioner: Chad Lawrence, Deputy Aviation Commissioner: Lawrence Brinker, Esq., Executive Director and General Counsel NUAIR Alliance: Mary Carol Chruscicki, Executive Director CNY Defense Alliance: and, Shawna Papale, Senior Vice President Economic Development and Administration, Mohawk Valley EDGE, Economic Development Growth Enterprises Corporation.
“It’s inspiring how different leaders – elected, business, non-profit, community – have worked together to grow all of the different projects at the former Griffiss Air Force Base,” said Myers. “It’s truly a testament to what amazing things can happen when people reach out and work together.”
Among the government assets located here are the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL also known as Rome Labs), the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) and the Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS).
Plus, the airport is one of six FAA-designated UAS Test Sites (Unmanned Aircraft System) in the nation. The UAS test site is managed by NUAIR, a coalition that operates and oversees the site at the airport.
The Griffiss Business and Technology Park is also home to dozens of companies and thousands of employees.
Myers stressed the importance of all of these important facilities to the Rome-area community, and promised to help them grow and help create more jobs as the next Congresswoman of the 22nd district.
