Cathy Stolz will be exhibiting her photographs of exotic animals and Upstate scenes, such as the one shown here of John Brown’s homestead in Lake Placid.

Award-winning photographer Cathy Stolz is exhibiting at Oneida Public Library throughout November her sharp and evocative photographs of Central New York scenes plus her portraits of exotic zoo animals. Her work is available for sale.

The OPL invites the public to an artist’s reception for Stolz on Thursday, Nov. 3, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Meeting Room. Refreshments will be served.

Stolz has won several awards for her photography, most notably Best of Show and First Place in the Pride of New York category of the 2014 New York State Fair Photography Contest and first-place awards for photographs in the mammals, birds/insects and reptiles/amphibians categories in the 2014 Buffalo Zoo Photography Contest. In 2015, her photo of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s new snow leopard cub was chosen to be a mural for the entranceway of the zoo’s newly renovated gift shop in Syracuse.

Through photographing animals, many of which are endangered species, Stolz has become a supporter of several zoos, including the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, the Buffalo Zoo and the Toronto Zoo. These zoos participate in species survival programs which work to promote awareness of endangered species such as snow leopards, Amur tigers, African lions and polar bears.

Stolz’s outdoor photography focuses on the natural beauty of Central New York, especially its waterfalls, spectacular gorges and serene lakes.

Stolz believes that “experiencing the Earth’s beauty has the power to help nourish and unify us,” and she strives to create images that link viewers to feelings and perceptions usually not accessed in their daily lives.

For more information about the exhibit of Cathy Stolz’s photography running from Nov. 1 to 30, stop by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St., Oneida, or call 315-363-3050.
